Thursday Thinking #4

This is a weekly series that I hope you will take part in. Basically, I will ask a question, you answer. Easy-peasy. ūüėČ Sometimes the questions will be very simple and easy to answer in one word. Other times they may be more controversial and require a bit thought on your part.

Ready?

#4 What was the last movie, TV show or book that made you cry?

It was the Bones season finale. When Angela had her baby and the doctor declared that the baby’s eyes were fine. Sniff. Sniff. Anyone have a tissue?

Not what I had planned

Best laid plans...

I am a planner. I like to have a set schedule of what to do when. I like checking things off my carefully thought out to-do list. Each item is a sense of accomplishment for me. Written, visual record of what I plan to do, and what I have accomplished.

I set goals.

I scribe my dreams.

Autism and Lupus laugh.

Each Sunday after the kids are in bed I pull out my MomAgenda, glance at what appointments I have for the coming week and begin planning.

My plan for Monday? I will clean the downstairs bathrooms, vacuum 2 of the upstairs bedrooms, write one blog post, email two potentinal new contacts, bake zucchini bread and water the patio plants.

Reasonable. Attainable. Doable. I am woman, hear me roar.

Reality of Monday? One melting down, needy, vomiting child. That is it.

Sigh. Clean bathrooms are overrated anyway.

(Lack of) Popsicles cause Lupus

Last night was a lesson in selective hearing. At least I think it was. I may not have heard that right.

Faith was very needy yesterday. She wanted, no, make that she needed me right beside her all day. Between the meltdowns and the “hold me”s, I was mentally worn out. When she fell asleep all I could feel was a pounding in my head and a ringing in my ears.

Did I mention my CellCept dosage was increased. Again? It makes me feel really yucky.

Bzzzzzz. Thud. Bzzzzz. Thud.

That was about it.

Hubby had been waiting pretty patiently for Faith to go to sleep so we could have grown up conversation. You know, the kind that doesn’t involve Dora or Scooby-Doo.¬†Unless you are into that kinda thing. MommyRambles is not here to judge.

Anywho, I walked into the kitchen where hubby was eating a banana popsicle. I must have made a disgusted face because he informed me “Banana popsicles are good!”

“No, they are not, they are yucky. I have never liked banana popsicles. They make me gag.”

“Have you ever really tried one? You didn’t eat banana popsicles as a kid?

(at this point the thump in my head and the buzzing noise started up again. I know he kept talking, and it might have even been important, but I didn’t hear it. Fade back in…)

“….and I’m pretty sure that was what caused….”

(Fade back out)

Buzzzz. Thump. Buzz. Thump.

(Fade back in)

“….Lupus. I’m sorry you are feeling so sick.”

Due to the selective hearing my overworked ears were implementing and the pounding in my head from the CellCept, what I got out of that whole conversation was:

Failure to eat banana popsicles as a child causes Lupus.

There you have it.

Please tell me that I’m not the only one whose selective hearing has led to some pretty interesting realizations.

Thursday Thinking #3

#3 When you have 30 minutes of free time, how do you pass the time?

After laughing for a bit at the thought of 30 minutes of “free-time”, I gave it some thought. I would probably spend it taking a long shower. You know the kind, where you get to shave both legs and wash your hair.

My Memories Suite

And the winner is #4 – Wife of a Sailor!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am scrapbooking failure.
There, I said it.
I have the best of intentions. Really. I do.
But my scrapbook pages always end up looking like a kindergarden art project. I take that back….they look worse than a kindergarden art project.
(Hanging head in craftymom shame)
I figured I would be a perfect test subject to try out digital scrapbooking software. There are a lot of programs out there and I had no idea which one would work for me. (Read: Tech illiterate and impatient) When I was given the opportunity to try out My Memories Suite, I figured I would give it a go.
Downloading to my Mac was very easy with clear step by step instructions and installing it went without a hitch.
I opened up My Memories Suite and did not read any instructions. Yes, you read that right. I dove right in attempting to make a digital scrapbook with reading any how-to’s. Within 10 minutes I was finding my way around within the software without any problems. Several times after I clicked a button, I had to yell to hubs, “Hey! Come check this out! Look what I just did!”
In 15 minutes I had created an entire album.
All milestones are something to celebrate, document and treasure. In special needs families, that is even more true. Milestones are hard won. The birth that didn’t go quite as we expected? The first birthday that we weren’t sure we would be able to¬†celebrate? The first step that was the result of months and months of Physical Therapy? The first taste of a new food after being G-Tube fed only? Starting school? (Sniffle, sniff, I’m starting to tear up. Let’s move on)
MyMemories has generously given me the opportunity to give away a copy of this fun-a-licious software to one of YOU, my lucky readers. ($39.97 value)
Thursday Thinking #2
#2 If you won the lottery, what it the first thing you would do?
I would pay off the remaining debt we have and possibly buy a lift chair for our van for Faith. Boring but true.
