Thursday Thinking #1

This is the first in a weekly series that I’m starting. Basically, I will ask a question, you answer. Easy-peasy. 😉 Sometimes the questions will be very simple and easy to answer in one word. Other times they may be more controversial and require a bit thought on your part.

Ready?

#1 At what age do you feel you finally became an adult?

If I had to pin down an age that signified my move to adulthood, I would chose 20. That’s when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. Life was no longer just about me, my dogs, and doing what *I* wanted to do when *I* wanted to do it. Suddenly there was another person that I had to think about.

I think I became an adult at 21… I graduated college at that age and was responsible for myself completely (no one helping with car insurance, etc). On the other hand, my dad died when I was 22 and it was then that I felt… older than I was.

I guess I’d say twenty-two, the year Sampson and I got married. Though I was a residential student in college, I did not permanently move out of my parents’ house until marriage. Having a space that was just ours cemented the “adulthood” feeling much more than the academic bubble ever did.

My 19th birthday…it’s the day I found out I was pregnant w/the twins

I think I *became* an adult at 22 when I was pregnant with my oldest and had complications, and had to weigh treatment of my own issue (life threatening) against the statement “We don’t THINK it will hurt the baby…” *gulp*

I first FELT like one when my grandmother died. My brother/girlfriend, brother/ex-wife, husband/me were standing around my sister’s grave (a few rows over) and praying without my parents there to lead us. It dawned on me that my grandparents were now all gone, so my own parents were the “older” generation.

I feel when I was 18. My mom passed away & I was on my own. I dropped out of college because my great grandma also passed away 2 weeks before my mom and I decided I need to stop farting around and make a decision. I moved from NY to CO 3 months after my mom passed and I have been here since then.

Gotta do what ya gotta do right? I am now 23 and just had my daughter 3 months ago tomorrow (Holy smokes!) And I definitely feel a larger sense of adulthood. I am also starting to plan my wedding so goodness time goes fast!

    Married at 19, baby at 20, 24 & 25.

Became an adult at 32, survived cancer and am still cancer free.

    Became an orphan at 47.

    Became a gramma at 49.

I don’t think we really understand until our early 30’s. Yes, we are of legal age, but I don’t think we really understand.

I still don’t. And I’d like to not be for a while! 😉
