Responsibility? Really?

I will be the first to admit that I have been pretty vocal about a certain business’s lack of what I see as responsibility.

The lack of stepping up. Saying, “Dang, something is not right here.”

Today I would like to tell you about a different company.

In 2005 I bought a Tempurpedic Mattress. It was a huge splurge for us. We agonized over it for MONTHS. Shortly before hubby was deploying to the Mediterranean, we took the plunge and bought it.

Can you say “Totally worth every penny!”?

This was such a huge investment for us that we wanted to protect it. Tempurpedic has a special protective cover for the mattresses that when purchased at the same time as the mattress itself, has a 10 year warranty.

Fast forward to June 2011.

Faith, as she does every night, crawled into bed with us. But this night she had an accident. Ok, no biggie, everything is protected and washable.

Except it wasn’t protected. The protective cover didn’t protect. Oh nos. :(

We called Tempurpedic and we were told that there had been a few production issues with the protector we had, but they would send us out a brand new, much improved protector.

M’kay, sounds good.

New one arrived and whoa nelly it was different! We put it right on the bed and life went on.

Until a couple of weeks ago when Faith once again crawled into bed with us and had an accident.

The super-duper new and improved protector didn’t work. AT ALL.

Ewwwww.

We called Tempurpedic once again because….THIS IS NOT RIGHT.

And do you know what they told me???

Ready?

Grab a coffee so you have something to spit on your keyboard when you read what they told me.

Got it?

Ok, they told me….

We made a mistake.

Can you imagine? A huge company admitting that something got past their careful vetting. That an error happened.

It turns out that the super-duper mattress protector we were sent was actually a bed cover and is not designed to provide any protection at all.

What is Tempurpedic doing to fix this?

They are not only sending us an entire new bed, they are upgrading the bed.

Admitting a mistake AND fixing it?

You spit your coffee didn’t you?

Sharing a cup of joy and a giveaway #PeetsCoffee #Cbias

A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to try Peet’s Coffee for the first time. That stuff is GOOD! Now, just in time for the holiday and for gift giving, I thought we would give Peet’s Holiday Blend a try.

You can follow along on my shopping trip HERE.

Once I had this yummy coffee in my hands, my next mission was to try and figure out for whom to make a gift of coffee.

You know how I love my coffee.

And I love giving gifts.

Giving the gift of coffee? Yes please!

Gosh, who can I chose to give a gift of coffee to? I want to give the gift of Peet’s Coffee to more than just one person.

What if instead of giving the gift of coffee I gave the gift of something made with the coffee? Then I could give the gift to many people!

Yes!

I am going to make Peet’s Coffee shortbread cookies. Can you say yum???

I have all my ingredients, ready to go.

Look at this amazing Peet’s Coffee! I wish you could smell this!

Have you ever tried the ziplock method? Talk about easy!

Cut into cute squares. The coffee is so aromatic, it really smells amazing while baking.

Cooling. It wouldn’t hurt to sneak one… Or two….

Packaging up, with cute ribbons.

I can’t wait to hand these out! Peet’s Coffee makes more than just a great cup of coffee, it is perfect to cook with!

Would you like to win a Peet’s Coffee gift pack worth $75?? I thought so….

Part 2:

If  you have been following my adventures so far….

Thanks for reading! You are awesome!

BIG GROUP HUG! Mwah!

So, we made it to the Hyatt, handed the (please don’t run out of gas) van over to the valet and after taking a deep breath…walked inside.

We found the elevator and made it to the right floor. Then we proceeded to try and join the veterinarian conference also taking place on that floor.

Uhhh…wrong group.

A very sweet waiter pointed us to the right conference room.

Walking through those giant, fancy-schmancy doors was one of the scariest things I’ve done.

OMG. OMG. OMG. I can’t do this. I can’t not do this. I can’t do this.

Then I’m pretty sure Alane pushed me inside.

I must have been sporting the “deer in the headlights” look because as soon as Jenny spotted me, she  came right over and gave me a hug.

You have NO idea how much I needed that.

Ok, I’m through the doors, still breathing, I have a few familiar faces….

You know the scene when the new kid goes to the empty cafeteria table? Yeah. That was me.

But it’s all good….because I was there!

Now on to the important stuff, why the heck was I there anyway?

The Activision Games For Girls Summit is exactly what it sounds like. A summit of people, mostly moms, getting together to talk about video games for girls. This particular summit focused on 6 games in particular: LalaloopsyZooblesWappy Dog, ZhuZhu BabiesMoshi Monsters: Moshling ZooSquinkies 2: Adventure Mall Surprize! . I will review the details about each game one by one in upcoming posts. During the summit we learned quite a bit about the positive side of gaming for girls. Some of the facts that stood out the most to me…

  •  Games provide us with the 4 ingredients that make for a happy meaningful life
    • Satisfying work
    • Real hope for success
    • Strong social connections
    • A chance to become a part of something bigger than ourselves
  • Games create a positive mindset and making them more resilient in the face of failure
    • Gamers spend 80% of their time failing
    • We like and trust someone after we’ve played a game with them
    • More likely to help someone in real life after we’ve helped them in an online game
    • 40% of time on Facebook is spent playing social games

(40%????? Really? Wow, that’s a lot of Mafia Wars and Farmville!)

Video games aren’t just hard, they’re adaptively hard

  • Keep people at the edge of their abilities and push them further
  • Adaptive challenge is stunningly powerful for learning, according to John Gabrieli, a neuroscientist at MIT.
  •  Faster reaction times
  • Increased hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Increased spatial skills
  • Ability to divide and switch attention, pay attention to more than one object/person

Brigham Young University’s School of Family Life study (Feb 2011): girls who play video games with a parent enjoyed a number of advantages.

  • Behave better
  • Feel more connected to their families
  • Have stronger mental health
Did you know all that? I had no idea. I just knew that Faith had a lot of fun playing. :)
Watch for some FUN giveaways in the coming weeks!

{Mommy Rambles received a bag of goodies at the Activision Games for Girls event. I was not asked to write about my experience, nor was I compensated for this campaign.}

I don’t do this well.

This past week has been all about waiting. I have several things that have been occupying much of my time and energy. But right now, all I can do is wait.

I’m not very good at waiting. I’m not a patient person.

I can slow down and savor.

Heck, right now I am savoring my coffee and PopTart.

(What? Don’t look at me like that.)

But waiting….I don’t do well.

Are you a patient person?

Click Protein Drink Review and Giveaway

***********WINNER************

A review for a protein drink on a special needs blog?

MommyRambles, have you finally lost your mind? Do you need more coffee to help you think clearly?

YES.

There are some days (weeks?) during which Faith is, ummm, needier, than others. During those days (weeks?) my eating suffers. I don’t have much time or energy to eat a balanced meal. I find myself drinking lots and lots of coffee. Sugary, cream filled coffee.

Wheeeeeeeeee! *Twitch twitch*

Wouldn’t it be awesome if I could take care of some of my protein needs while getting my much needed caffeine buzz? It was this line of thinking that led me to protein shakes. Thinking I had just solved the greatest mystery of all time, I skipped on down to my local GNC and bought an expensive jug’o’powder, sashayed on home with my prize, made up my happy shake, then spit it out. That stuff tasted like monkey butt.

(Disclaimer: I do not actually know what monkey butt tastes like, but it has to be somewhat similar)

I wasn’t quite ready to give up on my idea of fulfilling my protein/caffeine needs in one shot just yet. I took to my trusty interwebz and began reading reviews. It seems that monkey butt is the most common flavor of protein shakes. Bleck. However, I noticed one protein powder getting pretty good reviews. Heck, some of the reviews were straight out raves!

So I ordered Click Espresso Protein Drink. I tried Vanilla Latte.

Oh emm gee.

Click, mixed straight up with water, was hands down the best tasting protein I have ever tried! And it had just enough caffeine in it to help me get through my long days without a huge sugar crash.

“The innovative idea of combining espresso coffee (nature’s own original energy source) with protein and nutrients into a gourmet tasting healthy energy drink just CLICKed one day says fitness experts and founders Greg and Beth Smith. CLICK provides the energy support we all crave with without all the high calorie sugar and fat! Perfect for weight management, a mid day pick me up, or to supplement a work out; CLICK boosts your energy, curbs your appetite, and burns fat so you can perform! CLICK delivers the health you want, heightened with a rich and delicious taste – so good you’ll forget that it’s also good FOR you!”

Vanilla Latte Click has become a morning staple. It was exactly what I was looking for, a perfect mix of coffee, vanilla and protein. Even if you think that protein shakes are not for you, try this one. Hot, cold, blended or even made into ice cream. It is smooth and rich and about as anti-monkey butt tasting as you can get! Want to try some yourself? Of course you do! Mommy Rambles would like to offer one lucky winner a 14 serving size canister of their very own to get Click’n!
